IDHSP's School of Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting program includes 960 hours of training.This training includes laboratory and lecture hours totaling 640 hours. In addition, students must complete a clinical externship where they must demonstrate proficiency of the theoretic and practical skills learned while under the supervision of industry professionals. The minimum Medical Assisting Externship time requirement is 320 hours.

Medical Assistants perform a host of duties within various medical specialty practices.  These duties include:  Record medical histories and vital signs, set up & assist the physician during procedures and examinations, administer oral and injectable medications, perform electrocardiograms (EKG's), collect and prepare laboratory specimens, sterilize medical instruments, remove sutures and staples, maintain supplies/equipment & conduct the medical billing and coding for their respective employers.
